On the basis of ancient Chinese poems in textbooks of middle school, the paper points at the modern personality characteristics of middle school students, makes full use of advantages of poems in the language teaching materials of shaping personality, cultivates junior middle students’ characters, will, sentiment, thinking and morals and helps students grow up healthily.The paper is divided into four parts. The first part elaborates what is personality, personality characteristics of middle school students and significance of personality education for middle school students. The second part points out the feasibility of conducting personality education in middle schools and analyzed factors of personality education with middles’ language teaching materials. The third part discusses how to carry out personality education with ancient Chinese poems in textbooks of middle school in three steps. The author first embarks from the teacher’s potency of personality, analyzes educators’ personality influences on students, and puts forward the improvement of teaching methods of ancient Chinese poems. Then the author comes up with ways to improve teaching of ancient Chinese poems, including helping students understand writers and their times, establishing students’ emotional appeal through contexts and letting students feel for writers by reading, and emphasizes the combination of cultivation of students’ Chinese capacity and personality education.The fourth part emphasizes the importance of personality education for middle school students’ personality development and points out that when carrying out character education through teaching of ancient Chinese poems, teachers can’t ignore the importance of basic knowledge and neglect students’ ability of feeling.
