At present, the development of Preschool Education has stepped into a period of “spring”, and our government has paid more attention to it, constantly devoted to improving the overall quality of preschool teachers. However, there are still many problems in the process of preschool teachers’ professional development, especially for the rural preschool teachers. Therefore, it is necessary to know the needs of the preschool teachers’ professional development in the rural area and take actions to meet their needs which could mobilize their enthusiasm and initiative of professional development, as well as enhance the preschool teachers’ qualities.The paper is under the background of the rapid development of Preschool Education in the rural area. Through methods of questionnaires, document and personal interview, it analyses the specific professional development needs of preschool teachers from six aspects: the needs for teachers’ professional knowledge, the needs for teachers’ professional competence, the needs for teachers’ professional spirit, the needs for teachers’ professional development approaches, the awareness of self-development and professional development pressure.It also discusses the differences of preschool teachers’ professional development needs from teachers’ education, title, age and teaching age. The dissertation consists of five parts.The preface introduces the studying problem, the current research situation of relative theories, the theoretical basis and the definition of the core concepts.The second chapter is about the design and implementation of this research, which includes the research objective, content, significance, methods and the implementation of this research, and the process of making the questionnaire.The third chapter trys to analyse the needs of preschool teachers’ professional development in the rural area by analysing the needs for preschool teachers’ professional knowledge, professional competence, professional spirit, professional development approaches and the awareness of self-development.The fourth chapter pays attention to the the differences of preschool teachers’ professional development needs in the aspects of professional knowledge and professional competence from different preschool teachers’ education, title, age and teaching age.The last chapter puts forward some targeted suggestions from aspects of preschool teachers, preschools, government and society to better meet the needs of preschool teachers’ professional development in the rural area and promote the preschool teachers’ continuous professional development.
