Zhang Zhongxing is a well-known scholar and essayist in contemporary China. His theory of Chinese teaching is a product from the combination of theory and practice, giving inspiration and guidance for present Chinese teaching. This thesis mainly explores his education theory in classical Chinese teaching, aiming at gaining enlightenment and further guiding the actual teaching process.This thesis takes Zhang Zhongxing’s works on classical Chinese as the focus; meanwhile, it also studies all theoretical works and his works and essays on philosophy of life. By doing so, the thesis profoundly analyzes his concept of Chinese teaching contained in his works. In the research process,the questionnaires are adopted, so as to have a new look at the current situation of Chinese teaching, especially classical Chinese teaching, find out the problems existing in the teaching process and try to solve them on the basis of further understanding Zhang’s education theory. The inspirations gained from his theory will provide guidance for practical teaching process.This thesis firstly studies Zhang’s concept of Chinese teaching,especially classical Chinese teaching, then makes a survey and analyzes the current situation of classical Chinese teaching in senior high school. Several problems concerning teaching and learning are exposed. For example, most ofthe high school students pay a little attention to classical Chinese, because they don’t have interest in learning it, so their reading ability is very limited.However, the most important problem is that they don’t think for themselves and have no unique viewpoint towards a problem. Meanwhile, the majority of teachers don’t have enough teaching initiative. They also underestimate the importance of cultivating students’ ability of independent thinking. For these problems, the writer of this thesis gets inspiration from Mr. Zhang’s education theory of classical Chinese teaching. He proposed the rules which the students should follow when learning classical Chinese, for instance “choose and follow what is right”, “discard the dross and keep the essential”, “know whether it is cold or warm by oneself”, “learn to walk before you run”. The rules mentioned above serve as stimulation for students to choose proper books, form good learning habits and cultivate their ability and consciousness of independent thinking. Teachers should mainly cultivate students’ ability of rational evaluation. This thesis holds that students’ rational evaluation is of great importance. Here three aspects should be considered, first, get inspiration from reading; second, enrich imagination and correlation, and expand knowledge; third, convert it into one’s own skills.
