Exponential function is playing important role in senior middle school mathematics curriculum. It is the basis to learn logarithmic function. In practical ways, Exponential function is widely used in our daily life and production and scientific research. Particularly in cell division, radioactive decay, population control, disease prediction, loan interest rate calculation and the archaeological calculation, etc. the study of exponential function, not only helps students to deepen understanding of the concept of function, but also has a wide range of practical significance. So it is important to understanding and mastering of exponential function.This paper is based on exponential function and its nature, questionnaire survey and interchange 104 students from the first middle school of Wuhai in 389 classe and 390 classe, then questionnaire survey and statistics and data processing. It is concluded that the existing problems of students learning the exponential function, find the reasons of the existence of these problems, and gives the corresponding teaching strategies to solve these problems, and gives teaching design of exponential function and its nature. The main conclusions of this paper follow:The existing main problems of students learning the exponential functions are:(1) Some students don’t index power calculations;(2) The students do not understand enough exponential function concepts, and not considerate enough of coefficient and index request;(3) The students do not understanding exponential function image;(4) The students don’t care about domain to use exponential function to solve practical problems.The main factors to influence the students understand and master exponential functions are:(1) The student’s mathematical basis is poor, mathematical knowledge is not solid;(2) The student’s dialectical thinking is not enough mature;(3) The teacher is not enough teaching to the concept of exponential function is not enough in-depth;(4) The teachers have not better to guide students to construct knowledge.Put forward the teaching strategy mainly has:(1) The establishment situation lets the student to construct index function concept;(2) With the aid of multimedia technology to let the students more image intuitive understanding of exponential function;(3) Seepage mathematics thinking method to cultivate the student’s thinking ability;(4) To guide the student experience to explore the process summarized the nature of exponential function.The innovations of this paper include:from the concept of exponential function, through questionnaire survey, statistical analysis the problem that student from the first middle schools of Wuhai in 389 classe and 390 classe to study the exponential function. Find out the problems that teachers to teach exponential function, etc. In view of the existing main problems, give relevant teaching strategies, and give a teaching design to exponential function and its nature.
