Reading teaching has been subject to knowledge-oriented utilitarian education which takes no count of in-depth thinking of the reading text. As a result, reading teaching is actually only an accumulation of reading texts rather than in-depth understanding. This not only leads to students’ shallow reading and mediocre insights, but also affects students’thinking mode and results in deprivation of the spiritual world. An important cause of these problems is the lack of education of the philosophical consciousness. Cultivating students’philosophical consciousness provides new viewing angle and direction for solving many problems in the field of reading teaching. It turns the focus from outside things to personal questions, namely survival, development, thinking and realization. The key point of this paper is to discuss how to train students’ philosophical consciousness in the teaching of Chinese reading in order to attach new value orientation to Chinese teaching, let students dig the value of reading texts from a new perspective, and explore and discover metaphysical issues within phenomena. The paper can be divided into six parts. The introduction part focuses on the reason that philosophical consciousness enters the research field of vision and the feasibility of training philosophical consciousness in reading teaching. Chapter one states concept of philosophical consciousness, related theories of cultivating philosophical consciousness from the perspective of teaching reading, and enlightenment of philosophical educational practice at home and abroad. Chapter two mainly discusses problems caused by lack of philosophical consciousness in the teaching of Chinese reading in senior middle school and its realistic and historic causes. Chapter three specifically studies the direction and goals of philosophical consciousness cultivation in two dimensions, i.e. reading texts and reading study of Chinese language. Chapter four puts forward specific strategies in cultivating philosophical consciousness from four levels--cultivating philosophy, students, teachers, and teaching methods. Conclusion part discusses mutual facilitating relationship between the teaching of Chinese reading and philosophical consciousness and appeals for more research attention to the spiritual growth of students. At present, the research of Philosophy consciousness training is not too much. But Chinese language and literature cannot do without philosophy is indeed a universal point of view.So the research of this topic can expand the research field of teaching theory and cause the attention of more front-line educators.
