The Study On Relations Of Internet Addiction Tendency To Personality And Social Creativity Among College Students

As a social phenomenon perplexing individuals and researchers, internet addiction has become a hot topic currently. Existing researches show that internet addiction has an important influence for individual personality and social development. Exploring the relationship personality, social development factors with internet addiction, is of great significance for how to avoid internet addiction and achieve benign personality, social development.In this research, personality and social creativity stand for individual personality and social development respectively. According to convenience sampling, three hundred sixty college students were selected. Using Hu Jingyi’s (2008) College Student’s Social Creativity Scale, Chinese Big Five Personality Questionnaire (CBF-PI-B) and Bai Yu’s Internet Dependence Measurement, Some data about college students’ social creativity, personality and internet addiction were collected. After statistical analysis, the results indicated that:(1) Individuals with different internet addiction tendency did not exist significant differences in demographic variables;(2) Significant difference in social creativity was found between female and male students, those who were the only-child and who were not the only-child, and among those from different birth places;(3) Individuals with different internet addiction tendency had a significant difference in neuroticism personality;(4) Individuals with different internet addiction tendency had a significant differences in social skill creativity and prosocial;(5) There was a significant positive correlation between neuroticism personality and internet addiction tendency, and neuroticism personality could significantly positively predict internet addiction tendency; similarly, there was a significant negative correlation between conscientiousness personality and internet addiction tendency, conscientiousness personality could significantly negatively predict internet addiction tendency. Openness and internet addiction tendency had a significantly negative correlation, but Openness couldn’t negatively predict internet addiction tendency;(6) There was a significant positive correlation between neuroticism personality and social creativity, and neuroticism personality could significantly negatively predict social creativity. Agreeableness, openness, conscientiousness and extraversion personality were significantly positively related with social creativity. Except agreeableness personality, openness, conscientiousness and extraversion personality could significantly positively predict social creativity;(7) When neuroticism personality as a predicting variable, social creativity played a partial intermediary role between neuroticism personality and internet addiction tendency; when conscientiousness and openness personality as a predicting variable, social creativity played a completely intermediary role between conscientiousness and openness personality and internet addiction tendency.
