Research On The Relationship Among Academic Jealousy, Attribution Style And Achievement Motivation Of College Students

The research takes779college students from five universities and colleges in Fuzhou district as the participants, using the Multidimensional-multiattributional Causality Scale, Achievement Motivation Scale and Self-designed College Students Academic Jealousy Scale as the research tools.The study measures college students’ academic jealousy, attribution style and achievement motivation, analyzes the relationships among the three variables, and builds the path diagram of the variables.The results show that:(1)Self-designed college students academic jealousy scale constitutes by the three dimensions:cognitive, emotional experience and behavioral responses.Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis show that the new scale’ structure is reasonable, with good reliability and validity indexes that can be used as an effective research tool for assessing college students’ academic jealousy.(2)College students’ academic jealousy score below the critical level, reflecting that there is no existence obvious college students’ academic jealousy phenomenon, the score of each dimension in the order of emotional experience, cognitive and behavioral responses comparison.College students in the attribution style is used on more internal attribution, academic success or failure will be attributed more to ability and effort.College students with higher levels of achievement motivation, and the motivation of pursuit success than the motivation of avoidance failure.(3)Factor in gender, academic jealousy’ behavioral responses dimension is significantly difference; each dimension of academic jealousy in the factor professional is significantly difference;academic jealousy’s emotional experience dimension in the factor grade is significantly difference. Attribution total score and background attribution are significant differences in terms of gender; factor in professional,luck attribution is significantly difference; attribution total score and effort attribution are significant differences in the factor grade. In all demographic variables, each dimension of achievement motivation is not significantly difference.(4)Each dimension of attribution style (except effort attribution) and academic jealousy is a significant positive correlation, effort attribution and behavioral responses is a significant negative correlation; the motivation of avoidance failure and academic jealousy is a significant positive correlation, but the motivation of pursuit success and academic jealousy is no significant correlation;the motivation of avoidance failure and each dimension of attribution style is a significantly positive correlation.(5)Ability and luck attribution for academic jealousy has a significant positive predictive, but effort attribution for academic jealousy has a significant negative predictive; the motivation of avoidance failure for each dimension of academic jealousy has a significant positive predictive; ability and luck attribution for the motivation of avoidance failure has a significant positive predictive.(6)The motivation of avoidance failure plays an intermediary role between attribution style and academic jealousy, attribution style not only can affect academic jealousy directly, but also can through the motivation of avoidance failure affect academic jealousy intermediary.
