An Analysis Of The Challenges And Oppontunities Faced By Chinese Competitive Table Tennis

After a long-term development, table tennis has become a national sport with high competitive level and enduring influences in China. But since the1990s, the competitive table tennis has faced the severely challenge not only in technique and tactics but also in cultural dimension with the trend towards globalization. This paper analysis the challenges and opportunities of competitive table tennis in the currentglobal trends and come to the conclusions as follows.1.The development of Chinese table tennis is closely linked with the development of politics, economy and culture. Since the late1950s, although experienced some ups and downs, table tennis is generally enduring developed and playing a significant role in the national political, economic and cultural fields. In particular, the formation of table tennis spirits, such as patriotism, hard-working, neither arrogantin victory nor discouraged in defeat, innovation, and continuous improvement, has a great influence on the society, and make the table tennis become a national ball.2. In order to maintain the competitive level of table tennis,Chinese competitive athletesand coaches constantly adjust and innovates the techniques and tacticsaccording to foreign opponents in different periods. With the great advantages in human resource, China has always occupied a dominant position in the world of table tennis since the mid-1990s. After the mid-1990s, under the increasing trend of globalization, the Chinese table tennis is facing competitive challenges: the overly high competitive level is weakening of its competitive nature and ornamental; the expanding international communication makes more and more adolescents be interestedto the mainstream sports items of western countries; in globalization, the international mobility of athletes and coaches, dissemination and application of advanced technology and modern media, help the people learn more about the professional sports in western, and in contrast, the professional level and marketization of Chinese table tennis needs to be improved. 3. At the meanwhile, the globalization also brings opportunities to China: As China’s comprehensive strength has been continuously enhanced;our status in the international arena is increasingday by day which introduce the sports culture and table tennis culture to more and more foreigners as a part of Chinese culture. And this is undoubtedly an important opportunity to promote the culture, improve the techniques and develop the competitive table tennis.Based on these conclusions, this papercomes up with the recommendations as follows:firstly, strengthen the promotion and output of table tennis culture; secondly, shapethe international star imagefor Chinese table tennis players; thirdly, refine the "Wolf plan", strengthen the feasibility and the operability, intensify the implementation efforts; fourthly, make further developments of the domestic professional table tennis league in order and specification.
