As a kind of students’ emotion, anxiety is closely related to their schoolachievements and psychological health, thus gaining more and more attention fromeducationalists. Students’ anxiety during English classes have a direct influencetowards absorbing and speaking the language, lowering the effectiveness of theEnglish study. One of the biggest obstacles for high school freshmen is the anxiety inclass. In recent years, there are more and more researches about applying imagerytraining to other fields, and some studies have shown that the imagery training canhelp to promote the cognitive abilities, especially the imagery ability. Compared toother social groups, students’ imagery ability can be more easily improved. Withlong-term teaching and training, middle school students’ imagery ability can beimproved, after which they can remove the anxious feelings, regulate themselves,build up confidence and improve efficiency in learning English. This study aims toexplore whether there will be positive impact on the improvement of English classanxiety by applying imagery training to English teaching and the possibility ofapplying imagery training procedure that comfort to students’ characters in teachingpractice.The study adopts the2×2mixed experimental design and the subjects are seniorone students. The researcher gives the experimental group imagery training once aweek and totally10times, making the students form positive self-schema on the basisof comprehensive self-understanding, and giving pre-simulate of the expectantpositive result, thus reducing their anxiety level towards English learning. This studyis linked by imagery training, mainlined with guiding students’ experience andrediscover, and conducted in various forms of playing, role play and group discussion.After10times’ imagery training, the study gains the following conclusion:1) The anxiety level of senior one students has negative correlation with theirEnglish scores. 2) The anxiety level of senior one students has significant differences betweenmale and female students, with boys’ anxiety level significantly higher than girls’.3) The imagery training significantly reduces the class anxiety level of senior onestudents.4) The imagery training significantly improves English scores of senior onestudents.
