National Defense Education Act of the People’s Republic of China defines clearly theresponsibilities of national defense education in schools, providing a legal basis for secondaryvocational schools (referred to as SVS) developing national defense education. As animportant component of national defense education, the national defense education insecondary vocational schools, under the national defense education in high school, has apositive meaning in strengthening students’ ideological and political education, improvingstudents’ awareness of national defense, enhancing students’ physical fitness, sharpeningstudents’will, cultivating students’patriotism and collective concept and so on.In the21st century, vocational education has been vigorously developing in China.Secondary vocational education has occupied half of the share of vocational education, withthe educational structure being constantly optimized, secondary vocational education andhigher education being popularized. With the rapid development of China’s economy and theconstantly increasing demand for high-quality skilled personnel, secondary vocationaleducation will further grow and develop.In secondary vocational schools, there are currently some problems existing inunderstanding national defense education, teachers, system, content, funding, supervision andother aspects. Some secondary vocational schools do not attach importance to nationaldefense education, which leads to unsound national defense education institutions, the lack offull-time teachers, imperfect system, inadequate funding and so on. Furthermore, theregulatory authorities being not in place and lacking effective oversight mechanisms results inrelatively weak national defense education carried out in secondary vocational schools. Tostrengthen national defense education in secondary vocational schools, we must raiseawareness of national defense education, strengthen the construction of the teaching staff,improve national defense education system, enrich teaching content and perfect the evaluationmechanism so as to improve the effectiveness of national defense education in secondaryvocational schools.Learning from the research results of national defense education in higher vocationalcolleges and general universities, starting with the problems of secondary vocational schools and secondary vocational students and combining with the status of moral education ofsecondary vocational students, this paper completely discusses the national defense educationin secondary vocational schools, analyzes the significance of national defense educationcarried out in secondary vocational schools, investigates in depth the status of nationaldefense education carried out in secondary vocational schools in Yantai, and analyzes theproblems existing in the national defense education in secondary vocational schools and theircauses. It also brings forward the corresponding countermeasures to further strengthen thenational defense education in secondary vocational schools, provides objective and truereference data for administrative departments of education and secondary vocational schoolsand provides a reference for carrying out national defense education and achieving actualeffect in secondary vocational schools.
