The rural vocational high school representing the current education situation in thecountryside is the main force of vocational high school. However, since2009the nationalvocational schools have been rapidly shrinking in scale, which has the biggest influences onrural vocational high schools. The causes of the decline in rural vocational high schools arevarious, but cultural advancement lag is one of the internal reasons.Beginning with related cultured advancement in rural vocational high school andcomparing with the diverse views and definitions about cultural advancement in the school athome and abroad, the paper introduces that cultural advancement in rural vocational highschools should carry forward its rural traditions of modesty and simplicity, and reflect thecharacteristics of the various parts, explore an overall healthy and sustainable way to develop.The use of the function of cultural education theory, latent curriculum theory, the extensivevocational education theory and care theory and pedagogy, psychology, sociology, culture andhistory and other multidisciplinary theory paves way to the other related research.On the basis of observation and investigation of rural vocational high schools In BaqiaoDistrict, the conclusion,which is about the development,the state of construction, the leveland the educational tendency of the rural vocational high school, has been drawn. The paperpresents the basic approaches to the construction of cultural advancement in vocational highschool setting The Vocational Education Centre in Baqiao District as an example. Emphasishas been laid on formulating a core concept as guidelines, upgrading teaching facilities andmaterials, improving management systems, modifying behaviors, designing andimplementing activities with cultural themes. It has been concluded from experience that inrural vocational high schools cultural advancement should engage all parties in a holistic,instructive and sustainable way and preserve local characteristics while keeping up with thetimes. This paper will present the influences of cultural advancement. It promotes the school’sstandards, guides the development of both staffs and students, and lays a solid foundation forthe school’s professional development. The paper also probes into the trend that rural vocational high schools have been rapidlyshrinking in scale since2008and analyzes both subjective and objective causes. A conclusionthat has been drawn is that cultural development in these schools tends to be isolated,one-sided and dislocated from other social areas, which lacks a firm base of support andresembles the cultural advancement in regular high schools.Based on a detailed and in-depth analysis of the status quo and actual situation, the paperproposes that cultural advancement in rural vocational high schools should carry forward itsrural traditions of modesty and simplicity. It should highlight vocational education and makefull use of courses featuring local specialties, both existing and potential. On the other hand, itshould be implemented in a human-oriented manner and give full play to the functions ofculture, including spiritual, material, and institutional and behavioral aspects.Overall, this paper has focused on the problems in cultural advancement in ruralvocational high schools and analyzed their causes. By drawing upon the successful exampleof The Vocational Education Centre in Baqiao District, the paper puts forward a set of rules aswell as strategies. Specifically, for one thing, both teachers and students should take an activepart and make joint efforts to relate theoretic principles to practices with sincere concern andcare. For another, combination should be made between tradition and modern, school andother social factors such as school, pedagogy and culture, theory and practice.
