At present, elementary education in China is in the process of transformation fromtraditional education to modern education stage of transition. Students are encouraged tohave the initiative and enthusiasm to learn so that they can become active learningagents. Traditional teaching lays too much emphasis on students’ accepting andmemorizing knowledge, which greatly holds back the students’ interest in learning andhinders the development of students’ thinking ability. In order to change this situation,we need to change ideas, explore new teaching modes and try new teaching methods sothat these problems can be solved.It is stated in the curriculum standard of the course on Ideology and Politics inHigh School that students are encouraged to develop the following quality:“willingnessto learn; respect for science; pursuit of truth; scientific attitude and innovation” so that“the students can develop a high level of competence in leaning and developing in theprocess of democratic teaching. Mind map focuses on the development of students’thinking ability and is aimed at inspiring students’ initiative, which has transformed thetraditional teaching method into the cooperation between students. This is helpful forcultivating students’ competence in practice and innovating and is beneficial to students’lifelong learning.Mind Map, a tool of thinking, is to specify and visualize divergent thinking. Mindmap can effectively help learners to memorize and think. At the same time, learners’potential is inspired so they can carry out divergent thinking and there will be morespace in the brain for memorizing, which will better knowledge extraction andapplication.Using mind map as a teaching tool in the course on Ideology and Politics in High School definitely meet the needs of curriculum reform and the development of students’thinking, which can reflect the systemic and comprehensive characteristics of the courseon Ideology and Politics in High School. As a result, to explore the application of mindmap is of theoretical and practical significance to improving the efficiency of students’learning.Through abundant literature review, the author gives a general introduction to thebackground, significance, present situation and achievements of Mind Map researchboth home and abroad and describes the necessity and methods of Mind Map research.Then Mind Map is introduced, including its connotation and basic features. Thetheoretical basis is illustrated from aspects of the brain science theory, constructivismtheory, information processing theory and dual coding theory, which further proves theutility of combining Mind Map with the course on Ideology and Politics in High School.Based on this, the author introduces the application of Mind Map in the course onIdeology and Politics in High School, including its the application value, drawingprinciple and method. Two classes taught by the author are used to carry out theexperiment and relevant data are collected and analyzed, thus demonstrating thefeasibility and necessity of the combination of Mind Map with the course on Ideologyand Politics in High SchoolFinally, the author puts forward some existing problems in the research and theirpossible solutions and gives thought to further research into this topic.
