Football is the most popular game with a big size of people taking part in all over theworld and it also has a good mass base in China. Education has to meet the demands ofsocial development and progress. Under the circumstance of fast-paced modern education,it is an eternal theme of P.E. teaching that the reform of football teaching should adapt tothe psychological change and development of college students.The present study chooses eighty freshmen in Xuzhou Institute of Technology takingfootball as experimental subjects. Conventional teaching is carried out in the control classwhile planned experimental teaching is done in the surveyed class. Based on documents,mathematical statistics and experimental teaching, ideas of physical education, allocationof teaching time and teaching methods have been reformed. The results are as follows.Firstly, after one-term football teaching, the surveyed class is more interested in footballthan the control one. In physical fitness test, the surveyed one is better than the control onethough their physical health states are both improved. Secondly, freestyle football iseffective to improve students’ enthusiasm in class and attract them to exercise in their sparetime. Cultivating their active emotional experience and perseverance plays an importantrole in promoting teaching efficiency, improving students’ physical health state anddeepening P.E. teaching. Thirdly, extracurricular activities are taken as one part of teachingprogram in the surveyed class, which combines P.E. teaching, extracurricular activities andphysical health monitoring into one.
