A Study On The Current Development And Its Countermeasures Of Mass Sport Instructor In Wuxi

Sport has been playing a significant role in post-reform China and sport participation has now become a popular lifestyle of the Chinese. Mass sport instructors, as the chief supervisor, are devoting their hard work during the implementation of mass sport. Wuxi is a typical and important city of Jiangsu Province in terms of economy and social development. Therefore, the study on the current development and its countermeasures of mass sport instructor in Wuxi is instructive to further develop mass sport culture in China.This paper adopts the research methods of document, questionnaire, interview, statistics and logical analysis. The analytical framework is constructed basing on the general affairs, instruction, training, governance and incidents in the operation of mass sport instruction in Wuxi.The research indicates that:(1) The amount of mass sport instructors in Wuxi is not sufficient to satisfy the demand from the residents; the personnel hierarchy is not scientific, a pyramid structure has yet formed, national arid first-level mass sport instructors are not enough but too many third-level ones; allocation of mass sport instructors across the city is imbalance.(2) More female instructors than male ones are found, the ratio is1.3:1; most of the instructors are young or middle-aged, which is advantageous; but the team is low educated, few of them have obtained college education.(3) Various sports are played under the supervision of mass sport instructors in Wuxi; the instructors undertake their work mainly for exercise rather than making money; they normally organize mass sport activities for three to four times or five to six times, mostly on public squares or parks in the morning.(4) Wuxi Sport Administration is responsible for training second-level and third-level mass sport instructors, the city administration is responsible for the second-level while the county administrations are responsible for the third-level, all instructors are required to attend intensive classes; the intensive classes normally last one to two days; courses of the intensive classes are improving from theory-oriented to practice-oriented.(5) Mass sport instructors in Wuxi are supervised by local sport administration, a management network with both horizontal and vertical expansion is forming, as the instructors are gradually being governed by, horizontally more and more specific departments inside the sport administrations, and vertically more and more local sport administrations, sub-district governmental offices and sports associations and societies.(6) In general, mass sport instructors in Wuxi is not enough, undereducated and undertrained, the system is incomplete, lacking of incentives, training methods and governing authorities. In this regard, the paper put forward the following countermeasures: to enroll more mass sport instructors and provide more training for them; to improve the examination system and management system; to set up more governing authorities; to gradually form a complete incentive system and supervision system.
