As compulsory education chemistry curriculum standard(2011edition)is officially issued, the compulsory education places emphasis on the teaching reform in chemical experiment.New human-oriented curriculum reform not only pays close attention to inheritance of knowledge, but also guides the students to acquire necessary knowledge, even including many aspects such as teaching process, having influence in the teaching process,the process of acquiring knowledge and experience of approach,emotional attitude and values, and students’potential development.This paper is based upon such a concept, taking Kunshan QingYanggang High School for example, to explore its existing problems and causes of carrying out teaching reform in chemical experiment and put forward useful strategies, which provides corressponding assistance for high school of rural-urban area.By means of questionnaire and interview, Kunshan QingYanggang High School has made remarkabel achievements of carrying out teaching reform in chemical experiment. First, teachers’educational thought has improved, and realise the importance of experiment teaching. Second, teaching methods are changed much richer and more diversified than ever. Third, students’enthusiasm in learning and basic experiment skills are obviously promoted. However, there still exists several problems. Teachers do not know about experiment teaching well. Students from rural-urban area are quite weak. Funds shortage,teachers deficiency, insufficient experiment management and undemanding experiment assessment are the key factors. This paper addresses the following causes.On the epistemology level, teachers and leaders lack advanced educational thought and do not realise the importance of exploratory thinking development in the experiment process. On cultural custom level, society, school,parents and teachers lay stress on utilitarian results instead of process. And they attach great importance to the short-term interest instead of long-term interest. They overpursue the high score on the level of experiment assessment system. On the management level, the management of school is too rigid and narrow to abide by the human-oriented concept.As far as high school of rural-urban area is concerned, the possible strategies of carrying out teaching reform in chemical experiment mainly include puting emphasis on exploratory experiment, cultivation of teaching and research abilities among teachers, reform in teaching forms and so on.
