PBI, short for Project-Based Instruction, as a new teaching model, with its historical background of Confucius’and Socrates’big ideas, draws on constructivist view of language teaching and learning. The model is based on the principle of constructivism and attempts to complement traditional teaching methods in some ways. Also known as Problem-Based Learning, PBI was first introduced to China in1990s and many scholars have implemented it in classroom teaching ever since.The thesis mainly focuses on the implementation of PBI in Grade One, Senior High classroom teaching which endeavors to investigate the effectiveness of this model in Senior High. Two research emphases were probed into in this study. One was the important role of PBI played in involving students in classroom activities; the other was the unique function of cooperative learning in PBI.With the research emphases, the author implemented PBI in real classroom teaching and drew the conclusion that it was an efficient way to implement PBI in Senior High English classroom teaching in involving students in diverse classroom activities and tasks. Besides, PBI also promoted students’cooperative learning effectively.
