Experimental teaching is an important component of science teaching. Physics,chemistry and biology are all sciences based on experiments, therefore experimentalteaching is the soul of science teaching, having its natural advantages that theoreticalteaching does not have. It could inspire students’ learning interests, playing animportant role in helping science students grasp related concepts and understandtheoretical knowledge. Experimental teaching also has a profound meaning indeveloping students’ hands-on skill, creative spirit and practical ability, etc.,especially playing an independent role in cultivating students’scientific literacy. Sincethe experimental teaching is of critical importance, then how is the scienceexperimental teaching carried out in rural middle school?In order to have a more objective understanding of the current scienceexperimental teaching condition of rural middle school,In the study, through literaturereview and combining with my own experience,the questionnaires and interviewoutlines subject to teachers and students were compiled separately and theinformation were collected and analyzed. The survey result indicates followingproblems exist in science experimental teaching of rural middle school: First, there isnot enough laboratories and experimental apparatus equipped. Second, it is short offull time lab technicians and professional science teachers. Third, the scienceexperimental exams carried out are not standard and official. Fourth, the opportunitiesfor students of entering the labs and dirty their hands is limited. Last, there is fewself-prepared teaching aids and multimedia assisted teaching used in the scienceexperimental teaching of rural middle school.Through the analysis of existed problems, the causes of the problems were obtained: First, the lack of sufficient education funds. Second, equipped with insufficient res ources. Third, the influence of examination-oriented education evaluation system. Forth, Influenced by traditional education concept, education management thoughts are relatively backward. Fifth, schools and teachers’ understanding of the experimental teaching does not reach the designated position.In this paper, advices on how to strengthen the science experimental teaching ofcountryside junior middle school are proposed: First, improve the understanding ofthe experimental teaching and solve the insufficient resources problem. Second,increase the teacher numbers and enhance their professionalism in scienceexperimental teaching via intensifying faculty training. Third, inspire teachers’ andstudents’ initiative by improving the evaluation system of science experiments. Forth,open the labs frequently to students and teachers and change to small class teaching ifpossible. Last, assist the experimental teaching with self-prepared teaching aids andunitilize the multimedia if possible.In a word, experimental teaching takes a very important position in scienceteaching and we believe that along with the new curriculum reform carried out furtherand improved better, the science experimental teaching would become mature andperfect.
