This paper studies the aesthetic elements in primary schoolEnglish textbooks and analyzes their application status in teaching,aiming at giving feasible proposals and providing basis andguidance for primary school teachers of how to emphasize andmake use of esthetic education to promote teaching.This thesis consists of six parts. The first part is theintroduction, including the dissertation reason, the purpose, thesignificance, the summary, the contents and the methods of theresearch; the second part puts forward the theoretical basis, whichis mainly on related aesthetic theory, critical period hypothesis,second language acquisition and the function and implementationcharacteristics of aesthetic education in primary school Englishteaching; the third part is a detailed analysis of aesthetic elementsin textbooks; the fourth part is to try to analyze the applicationstatus of aesthetic elements in primary school and get out thecause; the fifth part is to try to propose recommendations forprimary school English textbooks; the last part expounds the innovation and shortcomings of the thesis.This paper takes eight English textbooks of primary school fromgrade three to grade six as research object, employing the textualanalysis method to analysis five aesthetic elements of textbooks,the language, illustrations, contents, structure and binding. As forthe textbook application status, this thesis takes all the studentsand eight teachers of grade six of C primary school in Lvliang City inShanxi Province as research object, using the questionnaire,supplemented by interviews and classroom observation.Furthermore the SPSS software is used to analyze the frequencyand percentage statistics data.
