British and American film and television works have quietly entered the lives of contemporary college students, which is a mirror, intuitively and vividly reflecting the social life and culture of English-speaking countries and peoples, which involves all aspects of social life, but also reflects some prominent social problems. It has important significance to help students set up healthy values by correctly facing double impact of British and American video culture and adopting effective coping strategy.This thesis investigates the impacts of British and American video culture to contemporary college students with literature research method and questionnaire survey method. The positive impacts include guiding college students to pursuing personal efforts, training their self-reliance consciousness, and forming positive and optimistic life attitude. Meanwhile, the negative impacts are obvious, such as causing their political views ambiguous, money worship and individualism. If without positive measures, this negative impact will become worse and worse. Therefore, from cultural environment aspect, it should promote and develop the national mainstream culture and lean on traditional Chinese culture. From social environment aspect, the government should strengthen supervision and management as for imported British and American films and televisions. From school environment, it should improve guidance system of video culture. From family environment, it should creating good value education, improving their self-aesthetic ability and enhancing self-cultivation awareness. In conclusion, as for various aspects of British and American films and televisions culture, set up positive values with the common efforts of these four aspects.
