Facing the new situation where various ideologies and cultures are interspersed around the world,the values of social members present a variety of new characteristics.How to consolidate the value consensus of college students in a complex international situation and social ethos is an important issue for colleges to solve.The United States has built a perfect theoretical system of values education and accumulated wealth practical experience in the historical evolution of more than two hundred years.It has important reference significance for the values education of college students in China in the new era.This thesis follows Marxist positions,viewpoints,and methods,and takes contemporary American college students'values education as the research object.It systematically studies the main content,practical path,basic characteristics,and development trends of contemporary American college students' values education.Based on this,this thesis deeply reveals the existed main problems of values education for contemporary American college students,then actively explore the useful reference for the values education of college students in China with an attitude of sublation.The thesis consists of a basic theory part and an applied research part.Under the basic premise of explaining the relevant interpretations of values education for contemporary American college students,the basic theory part studies the main content,practical path,basic characteristics and development trends of contemporary American college students'values education,and outlines a generality "Cognitive Mapping" for contemporary American college students'values education.The United States has gradually formed the core values of individualism,freedom,equality,democracy,and the rule of law as the main content of contemporary American college students' value education in the long history of change.In order to successfully instill these values into the minds of college students and transform them into practical actions,American colleges mainly resort to five feasible practice paths:administrative management,teaching courses,teaching syllabuses,teaching classes,and social practice.On this basis,the thesis summarizes the main characteristics of contemporary American college students' values education in a macro-abstract way,namely the unification of teaching guidance and administrative management,the unification of teacher-led and student subjects,the unification of direct courses and indirect courses,the unification of classroom teaching and extracurricular practice,the unification of infused teaching and inspired teaching.Furthermore,relying on the current research achievements and conditions,this part also makes objective and rational judgments and predictions on the future development trend of contemporary American college students' values education,that is,the education policy of values education tends to be strengthened,the teachers' character of values education tends to be standardized,the education discipline of values education tends to be more general,and the social practice of values education tends to be international.The applied research part first uses dialectics to propose three critical points for contemporary American college students'values education,that is,values education activity is difficult to obtain social recognition,values education content is difficult to meet actual needs,and values education methods are difficult to guarantee educational affects.Furthermore,the part always upholds the attitude of sublation and proposes six lessons for the value seducation of Chinese college students in the new era,that is,to perfect the education policy of college value education,to formulate the overall plan for college values education,to strengthen the administration of college values education,to improve the curriculum construction of college values education,to strengthen the teacher's moral construction of college values education,and emphasis on hidden dimensions of values education in colleges.
