Textual Research Of Confucius’ Teaching Activities

As the sage master of a generation, Confucius’ s education has a significant and profound influence both at the time and now, Currently, researches on Confucius’ s education are centered on Confucius’ s educational thoughts, supplemented by the study of his disciples. But how did he educate his disciples? Specifically, where did he teach? How did he organize teaching? Were there any courses? If yes, how were the courses arranged? It is difficult to answer such questions.Previous studies on history of education can mainly be divided into two parts,that is, studies on the history of educational thoughts and educational system. These two parts view education from a macro perspective, whereas scholars do not pay enough attention on the history of micro education activities. Education activities are not only the origin of education thoughts and educational system, the premise and basis of their existence, but also the intermediary and bridge connecting them. In other words, without education activities, there would be no educational thoughts and educational system. Thus, in order to answer the questions mentioned above, we must start with an understanding of Confucius’ s teaching activities and try the best to restore teaching situations at that time.Based on a full reading of literatures, this paper first introduces the research achievements on the history of education activities in recent years, which are used as theoretical foundations, and then explains the education status in Confucius’ s time.The focus of the paper is to solve three problems, including the textual research of places for Confucius’ s education activities, exploration of his educational contents and discussion of his teaching organization forms. Although teaching activities involve many aspects, it is hard to complete all the contents of the research within limited time. By exploring some of the details about Confucius’ s education activities,this paper just expects to provide other researchers with some enlightenment, aiming to make the research on Confucius’ s education more meticulous and more vivid.
