Zhou Xin(1891-1966), formerly known as Zhou Tingzhen and Baoru(Before 1929, all writings of Zhou Xin was signed as Zhou Tingzhen. In 1930 s or 40 s, he put his signature as Zhou Baoru. Then in 1952 he changed it into Zhou Xin), was a influential scholar of modern education and social education, advocator and practitioner of rural education movement in our country. In 1920 s and 30 s, he established the educational trial plot in Longyandong, Guangzhou due to the responsibility in educational career and the interest in countryside teaching. Afterwards, full of enthusiasm for education, he followed Liang Shuming to Shandong to work as a mentor in Shandong Rural Construction Institute and guidance of Zouping county. In the fall of 1936, Zhou Xin was introduced into Jiangsu Education Institute, Wuxi. There he was affected by public education of Yu Qingtang, joined actively in the public education in the First Provincial Experimental Education of Jiangsu.Zhou Xin’s aesthetic education theory is based on the development of Chinese history,and is deeply affected by the Chinese national crisis,the crisis of political and the influence of the background of economic dislocation,and at the same time is under the influence of the thought of saving the country through education in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China.Zhou Xin’s theory contains the rural education,the rural pedagogical education, the public education and the social education. Zhou Xin emphasized the importance of the rural education, and proposed his own opinions about the object and the purpose of the rural education.He thought that the rural education should have five aspects which contains the women’s education, cleaning, farming, illiteracy elimination and sports,and should adopt the dowtherm system; we should also see the disadvantages of the rural pedagogical education,hold critical attitudes towards the traditional rural pedagogical education, and attach great importance to the importance and the function of this type of education.We should put forward the ways to cultivate the teachers with the education.Explaining what the public education is, and discussing the necessity,the possibility of the public education, content, methods and teachers question. Public education includes the content of the basic education, autonomy education, physical education and national education. Public education can be divided into two aspects--public school and public education center. Making detailed requirements of the teachers’ basic qualities in public education. Zhou Xin revealed the connotation, purpose and principles of the social education.Starting from the problems of the social education, he proposed the innovation path of the social education,social education content, ways and so on. Zhou Xin’s thory and educational practice show the practicalness, patriotic and times, and have important influence on the education career. Although Zhou Xin’s theory has some historical limitations, his spirits of fighting for the education career are worth being carried on.
