Non-continuous text has been recognized by public since Shanghai participated in PISA test in 2009. Certain reading requests have been proposed in “Compulsory Education Curriculum Standard(2011)”. Non-continuous text is also closed to students’ personal life and beneficial for training students’ ability of processing information and solving problems.Firstly, theory and practice relative to non-continuous text and its teaching methods has been analyzed and classified in this paper. Definition of non-continuous text opposite to continuous text is proposed after studying abundant previous results.Secondly, some problems are pointed out after investigating on non-continuous text reading and teaching. Understandings of non-continuous text are still on the surface for some teachers and students. Frequencies of non-continuous text reading and teaching are diverse for different grades. Many difficulties exist for students to carry on non-continuous text reading and teaching. Besides, teachers haven ’ t given specific strategies and reasonable ability assessment of non-continuous text reading and teaching to students.Finally, six improvement strategies were put forward as follows by combining studies of predecessors and suggestions from my teachers and classmates. 1. External environment is necessary for of non-continuous text reading and teaching. 2. Teachers and students should prepare for non-continuous text reading and teaching.3.Appropriate education aims should be established for non-continuous text reading and teaching. 4. Applicable education contents are required for non-continuous text reading and teaching. 5. Suitable teaching method should be developed for non-continuous text reading and teaching. 6. Scientific evaluation systems should be established for non-continuous text reading and teaching.
