Study On The Traditional Sports Culture In Henan From The Perspective Of Spring Festival And Conventional Holidays

The culture of Spring Festival and conventional holidays is a part of Chinese traditional culture, the brilliant and varied forms and rich connotation of which has become the symbol and carrier of national culture. Because of this, studies related to Spring Festival and conventional holidays convey both the content of ethnology, and some cultural significance. The ethnic tradition of Henan Province is inherited and continued through the Spring Festival and conventional holidays, which can not only exhibit and display the national image of Henan, but carry forward the national spirit of Henan as well.This study, through analyzing the cultural connotation and customs of the Spring Festival, the Tomb-sweeping Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival, attempts to know more about the cultural phenomenon of traditional sports among Henan people and discuss the characteristics and value of traditional sports culture of Henan in the Spring Festival and conventional holidays.Through interviews, it is found that the cultural phenomenon of Henan traditional sports culture in the Spring Festival, the Tomb-sweeping Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival, which are the four dominating festivals, can be divided into two categories. One is the traditional sports culture in the traditional sense like Walking on Stilts, Doing the Yangko Dance, Playing the Big Head Monk, Jan, Dragon Lantern Dance (Dragon Dance), the Lion Dance, Run Land Boat, Swing, Tsu Chu, Flying Kites, Tug-of-war, Dragon Boat Race, Doubaicao, Hopscotch, Playing Sandbags, Beating Spinning Top, Diabolo and Knocking the Earth.Another kind of traditional sports culture is with regional and humane features of Henan like Datiehua in Southern Henan’s Queshan County, the Fire Dragon Dance in Western Henan’s Mengzhou County, the cursing festive activity of Dongchang and Xichang villages in Lingbao, the Dragon Boat Meeting and its corresponding Catching Duck in Eastern Henan’s Zhoukou City, the Lighting Lantern and Night Tour in Kaifeng’s Iron Pagoda Park, the Paoweizi in Anyang’s Tangyin, and so on.Study shows, that the historical development of Henan traditional sports culture in the Spring Festival and Conventional Customs displays inclusiveness in development, openness in communication, fuzziness in terms of time of activities, distinct regional duality, pursuit of entertainment and fitness, the practical productiveness, nature-lovingness and life-oriented feature, fewer forms of cultural activities and innovative development of the patterns of cultural activity. At the same time, it also showed its social and individual value. The Henan traditional sports culture in the Spring Festival and Conventional Customs can cultivate people’s social adaptation, promote interpersonal communication and communication and develop and sustain social emotions. It can also reflect the preferences of Henan people and cultivate national identity, which has the value of cultural endowment. In addition, it is rather competitive, open, fair, just, intuitive, which also have a certain degree of competitive value. One of the features of Henan traditional sports culture in the Spring Festival and Conventional Customs is to entertain in the fitness activities, which has a unique value of entertainment and fitness. As a content and means of education, it can purify people’s minds and exerts a gradual influence in education. In today’s social development, Henan traditional sports culture in the Spring Festival and Conventional Customs, as a sort of spiritual culture, need material support and consumption. Various sorts of temple and fair festivals, as the carriers of cultural communication, have a wide range of attention and influence, can promote economic development and thus show its economic value.Finally, the problems found in the Henan traditional sports culture in the Spring Festival and Conventional Customs are discussed and some suggestions are also proposed. Study finds that some cultural activities in the Spring Festival and Conventional Customs show a trend of normalization, which reflects the lack and need of cultural activities in today’s society. We should face up to this phenomenon, pay attention to it and grasp the trend. It is suggested that cultural activities which have been well organized should be inherited and passed down. Those endangered traditional sports cultural activities in Henan should be sorted out. Moreover, the features of time considered, they should be improved and innovated not only with regional characteristics, but also with the function of reflecting the development of the time and the characteristics of the time, which can enrich the cultural connotation of traditional sports culture of Henan. It is also believed that the main task of the development of Henan traditional sports culture in the Spring Festival and Conventional Customs is inheritance.
