Minority nationality students are outstanding representatives of their nations and the new force to maintain harmony and stability and promote the sustainable development of minority nationality regions. Our national institutions have nurtured many minority students, but still cannot meet the long-term needs of the rapid development of minority nationality regions in the future. Therefore, many colleges and universities have already begun to recruit minority nationality students. However, with the emergence of higher education reform, problems has been plaguing colleges, and the ideological and political education of minority nationality students has become increasingly prominent as a social problem that cannot be ignored. How to strengthen the systematic study on the work of solving the problems have become an important issue of higher education. The study on minority nationality students is an important part of the ideological and political education, and to create a harmonious campus as well. For colleges and universities, fully implement the Party’s national policy of ideological and political education of minority nationality students has important practical significance. Therefore, to accurately grasp the idea of the characteristics of minority nationality students, targeted to carry out effective ideological and political education is crucial.This thesis is divided into four parts. The first part analyzes the purpose and significance of minority nationality students’ideological and political education, discussing the current research both home and abroad, illustrating the research ideas, research methods and innovations. The second part outlines the theories of minority nationality ideological and political education. definning related concepts of the ideological and political education, summarizing the characteristics of ethnic students and the need to strengthen ideological education of college students of minority nationality, managed to lay the theoretical foundation for future research articles. The third part is the status of ideological and political education to students of minority nationalities. After seeing the current effect of the ideological and political education achieved, analysis of the ideological and political education problems and the reasons. The fourth part is the focus of this paper. It proposed the approaches to strengthen the ideological education of college students of minority nationalities. Improving awareness of ideological and political education by clearing the responsibility of ideological and political education; analyzes the working principle of ideological and political education; five ways to manage the implementation of the ideological and political education that are increasing their ability to adapt to the culture, optimizing ways and means of ideological and political education and, strengthening national ideological and political education team building, creating a suitable environment for the healthy growth of students of minority nationalities, improving national security mechanism. Thereby solving the major problems of ideological and political education that exist, improving the overall level of ideological and political education, strengthen the relevance of ideological education of college students of minority nationalities.
