Since China’s reform and opening-up, a large number of floating populations has moved from countryside to cities with rapid process of urbanization and urban construction land also has expanded largely. Floating populationg has much influence on city’s production activities and people’s daily life, it can reduce labor costs and promote relative industries. However, it can also intensify the contradiction between human and the cultivated land and trigger city disease. Meanwhile, the current mode of Mmetropolitan development which paid more attention to production and downplayed people’s life doesn’t meet the requirement of new-type urbanization and it is an urgent need to change this kind of development mode. Started with the interaction between productin and life, this paper researched the influence mechanism of floating populations’effect on urban construction land scale under the background of new-type urbanization. It aimed to reveal the mechanism of action as well as the influence path the floating populations affected urban construction land so that it can provide much more scientific and rational policy suggestions onpolicies of population, land and city development management. The main results of this paper are as follows:(1) From the perspective of production and life, this paper researched the influence path that how floating populations affected urban construction land and built up theoretical foundations. (2) It carried out qualitative and quantitative analysis on the basic information of floating populations and urban construction land of Zhejiang province. (3) This paper made an empirical study by using structural equation model and found out that floating populations had direct positive effects on production and life levels while production level also had direct positive effects on the expansion of construction land and. However, life level had none direct positive effects on the expansion of construction land because the effect had been attenuation by productin level under the existing development patten in China. (4) On the basis of empirical study, this paper processed futher research on population and land interation and a series of policy suggestions on aspects of management of populating, land and city development were put forward.
