Accompanied by higher education knowledge production’s boom in contemporary China, knowledge production showed a trend of fragmentation. The quality of higher education research has been fallen, and the research has been followed by the problem of academic integrity and academic bubble, otherwise practical tools’ research become hot issues. Therefore, it is necessary to know the present situation and characteristics of China’s higher education knowledge production. Based on the theoretical perspective of the sociology of knowledge,4800academic papers from the Journal of Higher Education Research about33years has been analyzed. The paper main research focus on the four aspects:knowledge production distribution of higher education, the subject of knowledge production, the content of the higher education and the mode of production knowledge production, by econometric analysis about the paper production region, author, theses and keywords, found paper.Through the study, it is found that knowledge production distribution of higher education in contemporary China is in line with the division of state policies, geographic area on distribution has huge differences, cities and provinces distribution presents unreasonable characteristics, there are six important higher education of knowledge production groups, one of the main production groups is university, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and XiaMen University are the main production knowledge base; Econometric analysis about higher education knowledge production subject conform to Lotka law, knowledge production subject’s cooperation and communication become more and more closely, the scientific research output capacity has increased, but the author is not enough maturity, higher education core knowledge subject make a great contribution to knowledge production, but the core authors present a geopolitical structure, age structure, sex structure, unit structure and professional title structure imbalance Higher education knowledge production content focus on the "higher education" and " colleges and universities" two aspects, the research hot spot is closely related to the national policy; Higher education research topicsmainly centered on "school management", the empirical study is much higher than theory study. Higher education knowledge production mode is conditioned by the state administrative power, knowledge production mode transition from independent production to the dominant state plan production. All in all, this article studies Enrich the application of theorytheory of Marx’s social determinism of knowledge and Mannheim social constructivism, it reveals the overall characteristics of contemporary higher education of China’s knowledge production:higher education knowledge production socialization, namely the contemporary higher education of China’s knowledge production influenced by social and historical factors, national policy, academic resources and power, administrative power.
