Modern poetry is an important part of senior high school Chinese teaching. It not only plays an important part in helping students develop a positive attitude towards life, form correct values and enhance their cultural taste and aesthetic taste, but also help improve students’emotional intelligence. 《It has been suggested in "new Chinese curriculum standards of High school" that students should "read outstanding poetry in the past and nowadays by both writers in our country and abroad, understand the ideological content of works, explore the rich implication, and understand the artistic charms of the works" However, the current status of modern poetry teaching in remote areas of in high school is also not optimistic, especially in the present information age. As a special style in literature, the modern poetry is difficult for teenagers to read. In the meanwhile high school teachers’ awareness towards the teaching of modern poetry is also very limited. Therefore, modern poetry teaching is facing a great many crises and challenges.Wangqing NO.4 Senior High School is a provincial key middle school, besides the compulsory teaching material of People Education Press, they also use the poems in optional textbooks "Chinese modern poetry and prose appreciation" and "foreign poetry and prose appreciation" in the teaching of poetry. Wangqing NO.4 Senior High School has made some achievements in the teaching of modern poetry:The school has promoted the teaching by organizing some activities, and arranged for students to participate in reading and modern poetry contest to test how students has learned about poetry. At the same time, teachers have spontaneously formed a small team of modern poetry teaching to develop school-based teaching materials, selecting outstanding poetry as the teaching content, and enhance students’ interest in learning poetry. In addition, the school also encourages students to participate in community activities of modern poetry, thus it has strengthen the communication about modern poetry between members in the community.Wangqing NO.4 Senior High School has advanced and contemparory teaching ideas keeping pace with the times, but still has some problems in modern Chinese poetry teaching. For example the difficulties in modem poetry reading made students have little interest in it, so students lack enthusiasm in learning modern poetry. Influenced By college entrance examination and the degree to which modern poetry teaching is concerned, teachers are not very clear about the teaching target. Teachers’ weakness in modern poetry reading, appreciation ability and lack of teaching experience have resulted in the conservation and simpleness in modem poetry teaching. For the problems involed in the teaching of modern poetry in Wangqing NO.4 Senior High School, we should improve it in the following areas:first, create an atmosphere for learning modern poetry in school. Second, Strengthen the training in the teachers’ modern poetry teaching, airange competitions about modem poetry teaching among teachers and teachers carry out activities about communication on teaching experience. Moreover, it’s also important to improve the teachers’ quality in modem poetry and teaching methods. We should focus on reading poetry, develop students’ skills in analyzing and improve students ability to appreciate poetry and interest. With the improvement of the teachers’ and students’ attitude towards modem poetry and the development of the modern poetry teaching standards, it is for sure that the modern poetry appreciating level of the students in Wangqing NO.4 Senior High School and their Chinese literacy will develop better and better.
