Grammar is very important for anyone learning a foreign language, especially for students in senior high school. However, the English grammar teaching situation in art senior high school remains unpromising. Most of the teachers use simple teaching method to guide art students in their English grammar learning, which yields ineffective learning results. Due to art students’ weak learning foundation, it becomes very difficult to improve their interest in English grammar learning, which is also the reason they are always in a passive place in the English learning process. Besides, the author finds out that they learn English grammar by rote.Drawing pictures is widely known as a teaching aid. It is simple and intuitive and it plays a very significant role in cultivating students’ creative thinking ability. However, it is not widely used in the grammar teaching and it has not formed the independent learning system yet.The theoretical basis of this research is direct method.Exploring the characteristic of art students and art students’ learning status, the author of this thesis tries to make pictures combined with English grammar learning aiming to arouse art students’ learning interest and to test whether it has positive influence on their grammar learning. In this thesis, the author mainly adopts research methods, such as questionnaire survey, interview, pre-test and post-test. The author chooses the art students in Class Fifteen Senior Grade Two from Dawa High School as the research subjects. Based on the experimental plan, the author does the research, and tests the efficiency of using pictures to teach English grammar by exams.During this research, the author tries to make the art students take part in the practice of grammar learning by drawing, which enables the students to build their own cognition on grammar. The teacher promotes the drawing activity as a facilitator during the English grammar class and provides the reviews to their students.The research results proved that drawing activity can make effective contribution to improving senior high school art students’ English grammar learning. It can improve art students’ grammar scores and arouse their interest. Most art students in senior high school show their positive attitudes towards this new approach.Finally, the author points out the recommendations and limitations of this thesis for English teachers to teach in a more effective way by using pictures.
