A Study On The Relationship Between Personality Traits And Psychological Well-being Of College Students

This research project aims to investigate the basic situation about personality traits and psychological happiness of contemporary college students, and discuss the mutual relations between them. It therefore could extend research content of personality traits and psychological happiness of contemporary college students, facilitate to improve college students’ personality and increase the level of college students’ psychological happiness. Especially, it could provide theoretical and statistical supports to psychological workers in universities.This research project mainly applies “Chinese College Student Personality Scale”(CCSPS) and “Ryff Psychological Happiness Survey Table”to analyze 1175 college students, and these students are from Nanjing University, Southeast University, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing Arts Institute, who are selected randomly depending on liberal arts subject, scientific subject and art subject respectively. Furthermore, the gathered data are treated statistically via SPSS 19.0 software in the end.The following results of the research:The personality traits and psychological happiness of college students are different from demographic variables,the influence factors could be gender, grade, major subject, health condition and hometown;The research shows that the psychological happiness of college students is positively correlated with active, tough, rigorous, emotional and amiable dimensions, while it has negative correlation with altruistic dimension,these dimensions have significant correlations with personality traits as well;According to regression analysis, the tough, active and amiable properties have a positive prediction effect to psychological happiness, but altruistic property gives a negative prediction effect,the dimensions of personality traits mentioned above all have prediction effects to college students’ psychological happiness to some extent.In this study we draw the following conclusions:The overall level of college students’ psychological happiness is fine. However, there have differences between personality traits and psychological happiness based on Demographic Dimensions;The psychological happiness can be affected and predicted by personality traits to some extent;Currently, the college students should increase self-psychological happiness by improving their own personality traits.
