University counselors are an integral part of university teachers. The history of university counselor has witnessed a development from “political instructor” to “political counselor”, and finally to “counselor” over the past sixty years. Now, university counselor has become a career with a comparatively complete system. In universities, counselors have assumed multiple roles such as morality educators, educators on ideology and politics for college students, and the guide on their road to become a good person. They are the ties between students and universities, forming a media of communication between them. They are closely associated with students, and thus play an important role in the daily administration of universities. The level of university counselors’ professional ethics not only exerts a great influence on college students’ growth and the cultivation of high-quality talents with all-round development, but also concerns about the country’s destiny and the nation’s future development.A qualified university counselor is more than an excellent university teacher, and the particularity of this job puts forward a much higher requirement on professional ethics than that for other teachers. Being a person with higher professional ethics is a basic requirement for university counselors, meanwhile, it is an important guarantee for them to set an exemplary example in their daily education work and guide students to be good people.This paper starts with the necessity of the construction of university counselors’ professional ethics. By combining the features of counselors’ professional role, the paper then illustrates the importance of the construction of counselors’ professional ethics and analyzes the problems arising from the process and the possible causes, and finally tries to put forward some suggestions on these problems.
