With the development of market economy and the advent of popularization of higher education, counselors in colleges and universities shoulder more and greater responsibilities, have more and varied work to do, and the enlargement of enrollment also brings them unprecedented pressure. Great pressure and harder work and special demands on counselors in colleges and universities have made the weariness of this group of people come to the fore. To obtain some first-hand data concerning the professional weariness of counselors in colleges and universities and come up with some precautionary measures and countermeasures to deal with it, and to provide references and bases for the construction of the troop of counselors, this paper puts the perspective of study on the level of professional weariness and focuses on the causes of this weariness and its countermeasures. For this study, the methods of literature and questionnaires are adopted and a survey was conducted among 110 full-time counselors in Shihezi University and Xinjiang University. The situation, factors, and causes of professional weariness of counselors in colleges and universities are analyzed and, on this basis, countermeasures are put forward from the aspects of individual and organization to interfere in this professional weariness. In this study, the theory of 3-D of professional weariness of Maslach et al is adopted. They define professional weariness as a kind of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment. By means of this method as well as the MBI-GS revised by Li Chaoping and Shi Kan from the Institute of Psychology of Chinese Academy of Science, measurement was carried out of the professional weariness of counselors in colleges and universities. The conclusion of this study is that the overall weariness experienced by the group of sample counselors is not very serious. Of the three dimensions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment, except that emotional exhaustion is of a medium level, the other two are at a low level. In the exploration of factors in professional weariness, factors like gender, age, marital status, length of service, professional title, educational qualifications, health, and salary were explored. The influence of features of character and profession were also explored. Causes of professional weariness are as follows:1. In the demographical aspect, among male counselors, those between the ages of 30 and 40, single ones, those who had worked as counselors from three to five years or over ten years, those of higher professional titles, those of high degree, and those of poor health, those who earned from 3000 to 4000 yuan every month, and those who also teach or hold two or more posts are more likely to be weary; 2. In the aspect of character, those of low sense of control, low sense of self-respect, low sense of self-efficiency, and high expectation are more likely to be weary; 3. In the aspect of professional factor, the appearance of weariness is connected with such factors as the unclearness of the role of counselor and role conflict, over-heaviness of work load, the over-elaborateness and boundlessness of work, the complicatedness and difficulty of student work, and the gloominess of future of the profession. On this basis, measures are put forward, such as counselors themselves should re-recognize themselves and the profession of counselors, create their own value of work, set up reasonable professional expectation, learn some measures to adjust their psychology, learn to control pressure, and live a simple life to circumvent professional weariness; organizations should lighten the burden of counselors, clarify their responsibilities, and reduce role conflict, improve their salaries, carry out professional construction, make professional plans, make clear the direction of development, so as to interfere in the professional weariness of counselors. Countermeasures are expressly offered to Shihezi University and Xinjiang University to interfere in the professional weariness of counselors.
