As a new type of teaching method, the Activity Approach aims at setting a happy atmosphere and building some useful activities to better student’s English. Under the guidance of relevant theories, this research examines the content, the characteristics, the teaching steps, as well as the obstacles encountered of English Activity Approach, specifying the different kinds of activities the teachers might consider employing for teaching secondary-school English class. An experiment was conducted during my internship in Fuzhou NO.29 middle school. On the basis of the data collected through questionnaires and interviews, activities for teaching classrooms were designed by taking into consideration the physical and mental development of students. Problems encountered in classroom were carefully thought about and dealt with while test results analyzed statistically. When the three-months experiment was completed, all data pointed to the result that Activity Approach did improve on the traditional mode of teacher-dominated teaching, enabling the students to assume a more active role, to enhance their communicative ability and to increase their interest in learning English. Based on the research, the author finds that activity approach can not only be adopted to English teaching in China, but it can also lead to greater efficiency of classroom teaching in our secondary schools. |
