Study On The Social Adaptation Of The Elderly Migrating To City By Case Work

With the rapid development of our society, more and more rural youth enter the city and stay in the city for a higher grade and work. Many families pick the old into the city to take care of them, but there are many old people who can not adapt to the urban living environment, especially in the daily life and spiritual and cultural life. At the same time, as China’s aging process gradually accelerates, the old men who belong to the vulnerable group is getting more and more attention. Under the typical urban-rural dual structure traditionally. Urban and rural areas have presented significant differences in many aspects such as ways of life, interpersonal communication, and customs. And then, they act as major contributing factors to the maladaptation of new city-life among the elderly. So, it is quite necessary to help the old men solve the problem of adaptability and improve the quality of life.The research object is the old who goes to the city. It takes Ms. W in Jingxing county of Hebei province for instance. It mainly uses the depth interview method, and through the stage of the initial contact, we established a professional relationship with each other. We found a few adaptive problems of Ms. W in Ways of life, interpersonal relationship, as well as spiritual and cultural life. To solve these problems, we made a joint plan to improve the social adaptation of the service object and helped her finish the project together. In addition, the research is based on the theory of social adaptation, and applies social support network theory and the strengths perspective theory to help the service objects confront with adaptive problems and improve their ability of social adaptation.Through the whole research, we can draw some conclusions as below: Although social maladaptation is comprehensive and complex, there is a core link among different adaptive problems; The strengths perspective and social support network theory are beneficial to help old people cope with their adaptive troubles; To solve the adaptive problems among the new-coming elderly in city, offspring`s support in primary; Tracking and return visit or continuous intervention are important factors to reinforce effects of intervention; Good community environment acts as an important resource in solving social maladaptation of the elderly migrating to city. What`s more, a comprehensive support system covering families, communities and socities is necessary to handle the old`s adaptation of life by the roots.We hope that this paper can provide further deeper reference for the study on the old group and more people can pay attention to this group and help them solve various problems encountered in social adaptation. Also, we hope to help the old to guide their way of life, so that they can adapt to the social environment better and faster in the city, with enjoying the happiness and joy in their later years.
