School sport is an important part of school education and its reform and development have a special meaning in heightening the qualities of the people of the country and promoting the advance of the society. The reform of school sport is an important path in promoting the development of the pupils’ physical and mental well-being. The practice of school sport directly affects the effect of sport teaching and the development of the pupils’ physical and mental well-being. Scientific and reasonable use of sport games which are forms of sport activities and means of teaching can effectively improve the quality of sport teaching and arouse the pupils’ interest in sports so as to promote the development of their physical and mental well-being. The study focuses on the present situation of the pupils’ participation in sport games in Shenyang. The present situation and main problems influencing the pupils’ participation in sport games in sport classes were analyzed. The experimental study of effect was carried out by designing different kinds of sport games. The study is an attempt to find ways to improve the physical qualities of the pupils in Shenyang and at the same time to provide theoretical and practical support for the reform of sport teaching in primary schools in Shenyang.In this study, the present situation of the pupils’ participation in sport games in Shenyang was analyzed by collecting and studying relative documents, field research and questionnaires and the effect of practice was studied by means of experiments and statistics.The results show:1. The pupils of lower grades are enthusiastic and active in participating sport games but the degree of participation declines as they become pupils of higher grades 2. The teachers of sport are quite willing to organize sport games in sport classes but they are weak in doing scientific research for lack of further education and systematic training. 3. Policies and systems, teachers’ qualities and personalities, participation willingness and environmental conditions are the main elements affecting the pupils’ participation in sport games in Shenyang. 4. Sport games have a very good effect on promoting the pupils’ physical health, improving the qualities of teaching work and developing their interest in sports. Suggestions: 1. the positive effect of sport games in effectively promoting the development of pupils’ physical qualities has been proved but it still needs the awareness and acceptance by the society and families and joint effort of schools and teachers of sport. 2. further training of teachers of sport in Shenyang primary schools should be strengthened, the number of teachers specially trained in sports should be increased and teaching and researching units of sport games should be set up in schools which are capable of them so that they can do research in creating and designing and using more sport games so as to make sport games completely involved in sport teaching classes.3. In their teaching work, teachers of sport should join their pupils in sport games, properly control and adjust the games. If possible, they should randomly invite some of their pupils’ parents to participate in sport games in their sport classes so that they can join their efforts to educate the pupils and promote their healthy growth and development.
