With the development of “Beijing Opera in Classroom”since 2008, introducing the local opera into classroom has attracted widespread attention. Music Curriculum Criteria for Full-Time Schools of Compulsory Education(Trial Edition) clearly points out that students in grade three through grade nine are supposed to know and understand the musical culture representing their own region and race. However, how to introduce local opera into classroom and perform the functions of local opera in aesthetic,education and culture has become a difficult problem to musical educators.The date of this study were collected via a questionnaire survey of music teachers and students of three districts(Yunlong District, Gulou District and Quanshan District)in Jiangsu Province.After the questionnaires were collected, 66 copies for teachers and711 copies for students were found valid. In addition, by combining the on-the-spot investigation on primary and secondary schools in Xuzhou with interviewing in school leaders and visiting the local opera artists and leaders of education authorities in Xuzhou. According to the views on “Local Opera in Classroom”from different aspects,it is found that some school leaders have paid attentions to this issue, however, they are only willing to setting local opera as a elective course. Meanwhile, the funds for hiring the artists are limited. In order to realize their values in life,some old artists and experts are glad to teach kids local opera, but there is a lack of platform for them to realize their values in life.In addition, most music teachers consider that local opera has a positive effect on the growth of students, but few of them have the determinations to take action.It has been many years since Music New Curriculum was issued. Based on the results of the implementation effect and problems of“Local Opera in Classroom”, the author discuss the findings from two aspects( forming reason and educational concept)and put forward the following suggestions: school, society and government ought to create a favorable public opinion condition in order to improving students’ musical quality and promote the inheritance and development of local opera; strengthen the local opera teachers’ training; innovate and improve the local opera transmission mode according to the local condition.
