Objectives:Through the survey of disaster response ability of the college student from four universities in Xi’an city.To understand the current situation of the college students in Xi’an, who cope with the disaster knowledge and skills, the education situation and the willingness to learn, to discuss the factors, which influence the college students abilities of the disaster response, put forward feasible suggestions and countermeasures, provide a reference basis for the future related school, community and group to opencourse, training and demonstrations to against disaster. To enhance the level of college students cope with the disasters and ultimately achieve the goal of improve the disaster response level. Methods:We started a questionnaire survey to 2121 students of four universities in Xi’an about disaster response abilities from March to June of 2014. The questionnaire included four parts: the general condition of the investigation; family in preparation for disaster response;test of disaster response ability; the attitude and the approach to acquire the knowledge of disaster response, which was based on the self-made questionnaires in National SocialScience Fund Project(NO. 09BSH022) of the professor Li Wentao and formed through adaptation and pre-survey. Numbered all the questionnaires, then established a database with Epidata3.1 and statistic analyzedall the data using SPSS17.0 software. The statistical methods used in this study involved the general descriptive analysis, Chi-Square Test,Kruskal-Wallis H Rank Sum Test and Logistic Regression and the results were analyzed by the standard of P<0.05.Results:1. The evaluation for the questionnaire quality of the students disaster response abilityThe internal consistency coefficient(KR-20) of questionnaire about college students of Xi’an in disaster response abilities is 0.795, 0.768 for split-half reliability and content validity is better.2. The family of college students in preparation for disaster response The present preparation situation of students family to disaster was not optimistic. The rate of all family members(14 years and older) knew how to turn off the gas, water or electric switch was 76.0%; 66.5% prepared candles and matches / lighters at home; The rate that the family members knew the safety exit to fire disaster was 56.4% and the remaining projects rates were less than 50%. The rate of awarenessto prepare water and food were only 22.05% and 21.5%, which were important to human3. The test results and related factors ofdisaster response abilities from college students in Xi’an3.1 The test results of disaster response abilitiesfrom college students in Xi’anThe test score about disaster response abilitiesof 2121 Students in four universities of Xi’an was 15.69±5.036 and the pass rate was 52.3%. Among them, the score of natural disaster was 5.00±1.891 and the pass rate was 67.1%. The score of human-made disasters was 4.37±1.798 and the pass rate was 51.6%. The score of rescue immediately was6.31±2.327 and the pass rate was 51.1%.3.2 Factors affecting the abilities of students’ disaster response in Xi’anProfessional, grade, batch of undergraduate and interest are all influencing the test result of natural disasters, man-made disaster, on-the-spot-rescue and final scoresofcollege student. Among them, the pass rates ofthe medical profession(OR = 0.626,95% CI:0.519~0.756), first to third grade(first grade, second grade, third grade were 1.197,1.703,2.329,95% CI were 0.935 ~ 1.534,1.329 ~ 2.182,1.789 ~ 3.033), focused college(OR =0.495,95% CI: 0.406 ~ 0.604) and interested andgeneral interested(OR values were 1.992 and 2.280,95% CI were 1.180 ~ 3.364 and 1.319 ~ 3.939) students in disaster response capacity test were higher than the non-medicalprofessional, fourth grade, second-class college and knowledge of the disaster not interested in. In addition, family income monthly ≤2000,2001 ~ 5000,5001 ~ 10000(OR values of ≤2000,2001 ~ 5000,5001 ~10000 were 1.144,1.479,1.702,95% CI were 0.730 ~ 1.794,0.975 ~ 2.245, 1.107 ~2.618)and the education level of mother, which were primary or below, primary school, junior high, high school / technical secondary school(OR values of primary or below, middle and high school / technical secondary school were 1.495,1.831,1.437,95% CI were1.093 ~ 2.044,1.384 ~ 2.423,1.101 ~ 1.877), affected also the test scores and pass rate of disaster response in college students.4. Ways and attitudes of acquiring knowledge about disaster in Xi’an college students4.1 7.7% of college students thought they were absolutely capable of handling catastrophic events happened suddenly in this survey, 30.0% thought they had the ability to deal with, 48.8% believed that they had basic abilities and 13.5% felt it was not possible or they had not totally. However, the test pass rate of students who were capable to deal with catastrophic events in the disaster response were only 20.2%, So the actual test results were not inconsistent with theevaluation of students themselves.4.2 30.6% of college students in the survey thought it was very necessary to learn the knowledge of disaster, 56.8% considered it was necessary, 10.4% felt it was indifferent and 2.2% believed there was no need to learn. The highest test scores and passing rates were students who kept the extreme necessity to learn the knowledge of disaster.4.3 Television was currently the main way to learn knowledge of disaster response, followed by the network and schools. The major ways which were expected by college students to acquire knowledge of disaster were TV, simulation drilling and elective courses. At the same time, 89% of college students were willing to have knowledge education courses of disaster response and the major reason of unwilling to have the education course was that they do not have enough time.Conclusion:1. The questionnaire of disaster response abilities in college students of Xi’an had good content validity and internal consistency reliability.2. The preparedness for the disaster of the family was inadequate. The storage of essentialfood and water necessary to the survivalin a disastercould not meet the actual demanding andthe consciousness of disaster preparedness also needed to be improved.3. The main factors affecting disaster response abilitiesof college students were professional, grade, undergraduate batches, interests, family income, the education level of mother. Among them, professional grade, bachelor batch, interests were the common factors affecting the natural disasters, man-made disasters, immediate rescue and score tests of students.4. The disaster response ability ofcollege students wereinsufficient and the disaster knowledge ownedby students were not uneven, but they had a strong interest in learning and high willingness to learn, so universities could offer disaster response courses to improve disaster response level of college students. In addition, we should provide disaster response education for society groups bylaunching the type of continuing education, thus contributing to the popularity of disaster knowledge and skills and consequently increasing the disaster knowledge level of the whole people.5. In disaster knowledge education of colleges and universities, we should pay attention to the curriculum content, the combination of theory teaching and practice teaching, timely aid and communal disaster scene simulation exercise, which will combine theory and practice Education should focus on non-medical professional, II class colleges, junior and college students not interested in the knowledge of the disaster and take targeted measures to improve college students overall disaster response ability in our country.
