Based on the development of the Intercultural Communication and Cultural Linguistics and on the globalization of the English language, English culture teaching is required in the English Curriculum Standard issued by the Ministry of Education China in 2003. To carry out the English cultural teaching in senior high school is not only conducive to the implementation of humanistic quality education and the improvement of the English teaching, but also good to the development of both teachers and students.To explore the current situation of cultural teaching and learning in senior high school of Yanan city, this paper takes the majority of English teachers and students as the research object, analyses the current situation of English culture teaching in senior high school of Yanan City by analysis method, questionnaire method and interview method. Then it summaries the existing problems of English culture teaching in senior high school of Yanan City: in urgent need of upgrading the English teachers’ cultural literacy, English teachers cannot properly deal with the combination of English language teaching and English culture teaching; the students lack of deep understanding of English culture, the students lack of learning interest and initiative in English culture learning; schools lack of the objective environment to carry out the teaching of English culture. To solve these problems, this paper analyzes reasons from three aspects of the English teachers, students and school management: English teachers’ low cultural level, English teachers lack of new idea and new method of English culture teaching, the lag method of English culture teaching; students lack of English cultural knowledge, students lack of the motivation to learn English culture; schools do pay no attention to English teachers’ professional development, evaluation of schools do not attach importance to the teaching of English culture, the unreasonable evaluation mechanisms of teaching English culture, the lack of incentive mechanism and environment construction of English culture teaching. Finally, under the guidance of relevant theory, this paper puts forward effective culture teaching strategies for Yanan ordinary high school: four principles to carry out English culture teaching, including their ability principles, practical and normative principles, cultural comparison principle and the principle of mutual penetration; English culture teaching strategies, including strategies to improve the cultural quality of English teachers, to improve the students’ learning initiative, to create English culture teaching environment in campus; English culture teaching management strategies, including a plurality of English culture teaching evaluation mechanism, multi-level of English culture teaching incentives mechanism.
