| Under the policy National Asian Language and Studies in Schools Program of Australia,New South Wales published a new syllabus named Heritage Chinese in 2011. It is special for the students who have Chinese background in 11, 12 grade. Australia has an urgent need of a new textbook for ethnic Chinese students based on the new syllabus. This paper studies on the select of texts to realize the goals of this syllabus.New syllabus gives out detailed objectives and outcomes and also suggests specific learning contents for special target group which are 5 issues. The educators are required to guide students to study the issues from different topics to train their language competence.After analyzing, the study concludes that the document emphasizes grasp of language competence and the understanding of their national culture, value and identity as an ethnic language syllabus. Referring to the questions and materials of HSC exams in 2012, 2013, 2014,we can tell that the exam reflects the comparison between tradition and modern, China and western countries. It requires students to understand and reflect the 5 issues roundly.Thus, this study determines 7 basic principles of text select. After referring to the topics of 3textbooks and some relative materials, the study presents perspectives to make sure the thinking angle of every issue. Considering from these angles, the topics which are most appropriate and representative are settled. Based on topics, 95 texts corresponding to the syllabus are found out.The study also introduces every text briefly and gives out the suggestions of text selecting. We hope this study will contribute to the Chinese teaching in NSW, Australia. |
