With the acceleration of the social mobility, an increasing number of children have flo wn into urban areas with their parents. The relative issues arose with this phenomenon have attracted more and more attention from civil service and academic institutions. Intense rese arch has been done toward the macro-scale issues such as the allocation of the education res ources and the improvement of teaching management methods, while the in-class participat ion of the floating children has not drawn much attention. In fact, high-quality in-class parti cipation will not only assure the students’academic achievement, but also enhance the pote ntial exploitation and comprehensive quality, helping the students to better qualify themselv es for future social needs. Therefore, the research focus on the in-class participation of float ing children, analyze the current situation, identify the existing problems and improve it thr ough social work involvement.20 students from Zhixing elementary school have chosen to be the subject of study. The students here are all floating children. Participative observation and one-to-one talk have been done to study the current situation of their in-class participation, on one hand, we study the ways, levels, and the teaching methods, on the other hand, we conduct in-depth communication with teachers and students to cultivate the reasons behind the current in-class participation situation. The research has found that the in-class participation is below our expectation, problems such as the reluctance to conduct in-class presentation, the absent-mindedness, and afraid to convey ideas do exist. The in-depth research also found that the reasons behind include floating-children’s own reason as well as the teaching method, such as the difference among the grades, gender, the scale of the class, and seats arrangement and the relationship between students and teachers.All in all, in-class participation of floating children have been enhanced through social work involvement and observation on the results. The research concluded that when it comes to the study the in-class participation of floating children, the focus should be on the two main subjects, the teacher and the students. In-class participation should be focused on through the whole teaching process. To improve the in-class participation, teachers and students should achieve their targets on all aspects of classes. Moreover, large scale comprehensive observation, including social areas, schools, families, teachers as well as students should be conducted properly, and the social workers should use their acumen to cultivate new bridge and methods for floating children education.
