At present, with the improvement of people’s cultural consumption level, it has higher requirements for the performing arts, and the number of art reserve force students has also been expanding. But in many high schools in China art students have weak academic foundation, who also have the very obvious leaning branch question. Their comprehensive quality is not common high, but they have distinctive characters, pay more attention to themselves, learn something lazily, and can’t stand constraints, on the contrary, they like having a class with humor and happy classroom atmosphere; their teachers, on the other hand, due to lack of teaching experience, especially most of whom are the young teachers, whose education concept is not new, for example, traditional cramming education, often only pay attention to the students’ marks. If so, there are a variety of problems such as the art students geography teaching problems, geography teaching low quality, and low geographic literacy, which makes the teaching results far from the training target, and can’t adapt to and meet the requirements of the times development. According to the investigation about the present situation of high school geography teaching to art students, the author combines the art students’ problems in geography teaching with the characteristics of the art students to put forward effective geography teaching measures.This paper states advantages, disadvantages and existing problems about the art students geography education at home and abroad. Then the author gives a case study to art students in Donglian Modern Middle High School in Dongsheng District,Ordos, who are from grade one to grade three. Meanwhile, the author analyzes the art student’s intelligence level, geographical foundation and psychological characteristics. 330 of the participants completed questionnaire survey about art students’ geography learning motivation, learning interest, learning habits and non-intelligence factors which has an influence on geography teaching.Based on the analysis of art students their own characteristics, based on the theories of pedagogy, psychology, quality education and new curriculum reform theory, combined with mine four years working experience in art class, the author discusses the improvement measures of the art class from three aspects:The first is the analysis and integration of the content of the high school geography compulsory teaching material; Second is the geography classroom teaching process; Third is for the art students of the geography teaching program. Geography teachers through these measures can truly teach students in accordance with their aptitude, become "want me to learn" to "I want to learn" "I’m happy," at the same time, take the students as the standard, improve the quality of art students’ geography teaching, and realize the full development of quality education and art students.
