Research On The Project Management Of Large-scale Track And Field Competition

Making management research on large-scale track and field events from the perspective of project management, this paper aims at further enhancing scientific management, which is beneficial to extend and spread successful experience and technical know-how effectively. With the methods of literature material law, experts interview and others, putting the theory of project management into the National Athletics Championships, the essay conducts research on these problems and potential risks of competition management that are combined with the knowledge and technology of project management in large-scale track and field events. Main conclusions of the study are as follows.Firstly, using the project management theory, the large-scale track and field competitions can be divided into four parts: starting, projecting, implementing and risk management, and closing. The starting of competitions includes feasibility study and bidding. The projecting embraces the basis, responsibilities and activities and technology of plans. The establishment of project, management in human resources,scope, quality, time and communication are drawn into the implementing phase. The risk control of competitions consists of recognition and response to it. The ending phase covers the evaluation and closing of project.Secondly, the research shows that compared with the matrix organization of project management theory, the National Track and Field Championships, as functional organization, need to strengthen horizontal communication, which can decrease drawbacks and disadvantages to make the organization structure play its greatest role. The Gantt chart indicates directions for competition management and achieve programming and designing.Thirdly, based on project management theory, combined with the practice of competition management in the National Track and Field Championships, selection criteria on referees and volunteers is formulated. Applying the WBS, duties are discomposed specificly and clearly. It is found out that the shortcomings of referees,sport presentation and so on in Pareto Chart, and management is reinforced.Competition coordination mechanism during the games is put forward in order to make communication smooth and reasonable. Strict management is set up on fields and equipments and run time at check-in counter.Furthermore, site conflicts, failures of electronic equipment, penalty controversy between judges, severe weather and injured athlete are main risks in competition management of the National Track and Field Championships. Increasing standby equipment, enhancing emergency capacity and other countermeasures are come up.Conference evaluation method is adopted to assess the competition management.
