Restricting Factors In The Social Status Promotion Of Chinese Urban Professional Females

Today, regarded as a interest group the females have entered the people’s vision. Endeavors have been made for women development to be included in the overall planning of international social development, therefore, the social status of the female has become an important index indicating the civilization of a country. The Chinese government has been paying a high attention to women emancipation and development, and a series of measures have been taken to guarantee the women’s rights. However, the gender equality has not yet achieved in the reality in our country, women’s social status is still need to be further improved.This article discussed the major factors constraining our urban professional females in the promotion of their social status. The content of this article is consisted of four chapters.Chapter One is an introduction of current research at home and abroad on women’s social status, and definition of related concepts were also presented in this chapter.In Chapter Two, based on the related data analyzing, the professional women’s current social status was discussed from the perspectives of economical status, political status and family status respectively.In Chapter Three, analyzing was carried out focusing on restricting factors from social culture, social system, family, and individual respectively. It is not conducive to the establishment of gender equality environment and to the formation of gender equality cognition that the influence of traditional culture, the lack of gender education and media discourse in the expression of the traditional gender roles. Based on the theory of cognitive decision action, it could be thought that the lack of gender equality cognition is the main reason that causes the inequality between genders. Gender equality promotion polices and systems also need to be improving in levels of government and/or organization. The inequalities in job acquiring, position elevating, gender environment within an organization etc. are the main obstacles of female’s social status promotion. In terms of the family and marriage, the weak position of a mother will affect her daughter seriously, the husband prefer to the traditional roles of his wife and would not like give any support to wife’s career development. These will indirectly affect the females’social status promotion. Additionally, the lack of subjective consciousness, the lower motivation of achievement, the limited cyber resource for female social relation is not conducive to the realization of women’s self value and social status improvement.In Chapter Four, some corresponding suggestions were put forward to benefit the elevation of professional women’s social status. The first way is to to promote gender main-streaming, to guarantee a social environment for gender equality; the second way is to improve the related systems, policies and measures, to guarantee the acquiring of women’s political rights and economical rights; the third way is to promote the socialization of housework, and constructing a friendly family environment, thus through liberating women from housework, alleviating the family pressure, and reducing the role conflicts of professional women, to help women realize their own value and improve their social status; the fourth way is to enhance the self-consciousness and qualities of the women, this is a prerequisite to elevate the female individual’s social status.
