China is a country blessed with educational tradition of thousands of years. During the long history of cultural development, traditional culture of education with distinctive and dignified national features has been evolved in China, with continual influence on current educational culture. However, the educational thought of Confucius is the foundation of traditional educational culture. Vocational School serves as a form of secondary vocational education and a powerful supplement to quality-oriented education in China. However, many problems existed in modern vocational education, such as lack of historical education. As an important part of moral education, we still have a long way to go to improve the historical education of students.This research firstly elaborates the basic principle of theory of Confucian education thought, which includes teaching students in accordance of their aptitude,emphasizing students’ personality development; priority of moral education,emphasizing the development of basic moral quality; unity of knowledge and practice,emphasizing applying theory to real-life situations. Secondly, this research tries to investigate and analyze the current situation of vocational education, applying questionnaire and interview to students and teachers of vocational schools and summarizing the reasons why secondary vocational schools are lack of historical education. With the study above, this thesis comes to a natural conclusion that the educational thought of Confucius can still apply to modern education. Furthermore,this thesis tries to analyze the correlation of the educational methods of Confucius and historical education from the consistency of educational goals, to analyze the possibility of learning the educational theories of Confucius from the aspect of developing moral values, to analyze the possibility from the cultivation of the outlook on life. Last but not least, combined with the features and current state of history education in secondary vocational education, this thesis put forward three principles,namely, the principle of subjectivity, the principle of equal attention to morals and intelligence and the principle of linking theory with practice, with further emphasis on five concrete implementation methods as follows: teaching students in accordance of their aptitude, enlightening and guiding, model demonstration, the unity of knowingand doing and learning while teaching. Then, with the research of innovative method,this thesis tries to enhance the timeliness of historical education in secondary vocational education.It must be admitted that, because of the limited time, space and research, the present thesis is still far from being satisfactory. A further study of Confucius’ educational theories and patterns of historical education in vocational education are very necessary in the future study.
