| Five-a-side football is a variation of football at this stage. It is one of the six FIFA tournaments and will become a formal event in Rio 2016 Summer Olympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As a brand new form of football sport, it has attracted a vast of enthusiasts.In the meantime, its features like less space limitation, more chance to touch ball, fast motion frequency make this sport well received and engaged by primary and secondary school students. Introducing the five-a-side football to primary and secondary schools in the urban areas of Chengde City will help to improve the utilization rate of playgrounds at these schools,effectively filling in their shortage of sports venues. For students, this sport will be conducive to the cultivation of good will and quality among students, raise their interest in football, and develop an awareness of having sports all their life. Since the training of professional football plays needs to start from the very early stage of a person, the promotion of five-a-side football at schools of all levels, especially primary and secondary schools, will promote the all-around development of the campus football program and make the football sport more accessible at schools, so as to further boost the development of football sport China.This paper is mainly about a feasibility study on introducing the five-a-side football across the primary and secondary schools in the urban areas of Chengde City. Through this study, more teachers and students are expected to have a more profound understanding of this sport event, so as to promote its development in Chengde city. By consulting the relevant literature and giving questionnaires and face-to-face interviews to football teachers and students(and their parents) at primary and secondary schools, this paper expounds the function of five-a-side football and its features as a sport event more suitable for primary and secondary schools than eleven-a-side football, thus revealing the necessity of promoting it at these schools. Besides, it also surveys and analyzes the football education status of Chengde City’s primary and secondary schools and the influencing factors and reaches the following conclusions. 1. Compared with the eleven-a-side football, the five-a-side football is found with lower requirements for field and equipment, moderate exercise intensity, and high security for primary and secondary school students, thus demonstrating its feasibility at primary and secondary schools in Chengde. 2. The discussion about the function of this sport event further illustrates its significance for these schools. 3. Some student parents overstress traditional education and gives insufficient support for football sport, thus discouraging students from participation. 4. Football teachers at primary and secondary schools of Chengde fail to demonstrate adequate competency and only few of them are graduatesmajoring football education, two more unfavorable factors holding back the development of five-a-side football. |
