Discussion On The 2D Structure Of The Value In Hospice Service Action System

Hospice social work service targets the special group who is with terminal cancer and pronounced incurable by modern medicine. At their last phase that the death might befall at any moment, their bodies are suffering from diseases, decreasing quality of life, psychological trauma, till the end of their lives, and then gradually involving their families, organizations and even the whole society. With the values of humanistic concern, the social workers provide this special group with specialized services, releasing their pains, soothing their minds, and accompanying them to finish the last stage of their journeys peacefully. From this perspective, the hospice service is not only a social work profession helping people in need, but also a kind of art and philosophical meditation of love; it is an ultimate concern to the human nature; it is the product of the development of social civilization as well as the example of human generational cooperation.However, the multiple predicaments have impeded the social workers so much that how we could offer help and concern to those in need in a scientific and effective way has become the primary problem to achieve the goal. With the social action theory from Talcott Parsons as the interpretation platform, this research takes the hospice service as an action system, through the analysis of the 2D structure of the target and the efficiency, which mean purposeful evaluation and technical evaluation, to figure out the action sequence. It aims at providing a comprehensive perspective of observation and an overall integrated projection, and meanwhile, building the general analytical framework for the special-type action system of hospice service, so as to ensure a high consistency between the service target and efficiency.Generally speaking, upon the goal setting of purposeful evaluation in action system, “quality” means the directivity of the action nature, standing for the direction of the target; “quantity” means the degree of action effectiveness, standing for the realization degree of the target of “quality”, which is of laddering nature. Nevertheless, in hospice service, because the patients’ bodies are under the restriction of pathologic irreversibility, this kind of action is unable to distinguish the indexsystem of the realization degree of the targets with laddering nature. Therefore, it is the common feature of the hospice-service action system to convert the realization degree into several parallel dimensions with different influences to the target, and based on the different situations of every dimension, to select a feasible technical measure to realize interference.Furthermore, for the situation that, in the process of implementation, the spirituality concern is hard to be controlled and relative absent, this article focuses on discussing the new routes of the spirituality concern and deeply interprets the spiritual needs of terminal cancer patients, taking religion as a spiritual resource, and striving to introduce the applicable religious context into the hospice social work service by means of the spirituality concern strategy, giving it the possibility to have conversation with modern science so as to offer spiritual support to more dying people, and to reduce the fragility of humanity.
