With the extensive and deep application of computer network technology in education field, modern distance education is also developing in high speed, the computer network technology has played an important role in promoting the formation of lifelong education system and learning society in China. As long as the scale of distance education is expanding, the differences between the learners become more and more obvious. The learners of distance education all have different backgrounds and their age distribution, occupation situation, education and major backgrounds have a huge difference. The motivation and interesting of distance education learners can be effect from various aspects. To find the learner’s interest and improve learners’ participation in online learning is earnest hope of every teacher and education manager.This treatise investigated the different characteristics of learners in Distance Education and their participation in online interactive learning, analysized and researched the information data and online learning data of the learners, summarize the current situation and problems of the learning behavior of learners with different characteristics, analyzes the causes and summarize out the suggestion of promote theinitiative of participating in online learning of different learners.The research object of this treatise is the students of Distance and Continuing Education College of Beijing Jiaotong University who have participated in 4 public basic courses for a total of 10 semesters. First extract the learners in reading curriculum, curriculum guidance, view the announcement submitted offline operation and course forum posts from the data base, then classified the learners according to different gender, different age groups and different learning levels, sorting-out in statistics the data of learners’ participation in learning behavior, analyze the influence of the learners with different characteristics on learning behavior and the difference between them, and analysis the causes. And then through the difference of SPSS significant analysis method, analyze the differences between the four learning behaviors and summarize twelve differential conclusions.At last, by analysis the behavior of different learners of participating in learning, this treatise puts forward some opinions and suggestions from three aspects, such as teaching, supporting service and management in distance education.
