A Study On Lesd-in Instruction In English Reading Class In Senior High School

With the development of Curriculum Reform of Senior High School Education, lead-in in English reading class has aroused great concern. It is acknowledged that a flexible lead-in in English reading class can greatly improve the teaching effect. On the one hand, a well-designed lead-in in English reading class can arouse students’thirst for knowledge. On the other hand, if English teachers do not carefully design the lead-in in a new reading class, it will be a dull and inflexible class. Worse still, students will lose the interest of English learning. Although it does not last too long, lead-in in English reading class contributes to stimulating students’best state quickly.Therefore, a 13-week research was designed and carried out in two parallel classes with a total of 80 students,11 teachers in Grade Two in Cangnan Middle School in Zhejiang province. The research was carried out between the experimental class, Class 9, and the control class, Class 10 according to three questions:1) What is the gap between teachers and students on cognition of lead-in in English reading class and how to keep balance between them?2) What is the correlation between lead-in in English class and teaching effect?3) What’s the relationship between lead-in and students’ reading ability?Through the questionnaires, interview, and post-test, the results of the research are as follows:both teachers and students have some distinguished cognition on lead-in in English reading class. It is not just helping understand the reading material better but stimulating students’thinking that is one of the most important reasons to carry out lead-in in English reading class. And it becomes a great challenge to satisfy the students’ need when designing lead-in in English reading class because of different interests. Moreover, it can be seen there are some positive effect on flexible lead-in in English reading class. It can not only improve teaching effect, but also improve students’ reading ability especially the ability of grasping the main idea and giving a topic to a reading passage. Thus it is believed that the research carried out in the paper will definitely help other English teachers improve the teaching efficiency to some extent.
