In the 21s1 century various countries are carrying on their native language course reforms with the global competition turning white-hot. In 2004, with the commission from the nation Shanghai Curriculum Standards for Chinese (Trial Implementation) was published as the fruit of Shanghai’s 2nd curriculum reform. The standards regulate the language knowledge that the students of grade 1-12 must command and work as a reference book for the educators. In America, to keep pace with the unified curriculum of the nation, Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for English Language Arts and Literacy was published in 2011. The framework regulates the language skill that the students of grade pre-k-12 should have. It works for College and Career Readiness(CRR) and ensures the students’international competitiveness.There is a saying by Su Shi "I don’t see the truth face of Lushan Mountain because I am in the mountain". If not compared with other ones, Shanghai Curriculum Standards for Chinese (Trial Implementation) will never be improved because the advantages and disadvantages don’t appear. Shanghai and Massachusetts both enjoy a high reputation for their education. It is valuable that we do a comparative study of the regions" Curriculum Standards. The thesis aims to find the advantages and disadvantages of Shanghai Curriculum Standards for Chinese (Trial Implementation) and put forward several suggestions for its improvement.There are seven parts in the thesis. The first part is introduction which includes the research origin, significance, concept definition, literature review and the research approach. Part Two to Part Six compares the structure, introduction, required language knowledge and skills and implementation proposals of two Curriculum Standards and analyzes the similarities and differences. The seventh part summarizes the advantages of Shanghai Curriculum Standards for Chinese (Trial Implementation) and put forward six suggestions for improvement.
