Reading, as the main and the most important way of language input, plays a vital role in language learning, and it is always the key point in English teaching. To a large extent, students’ reading performances depend on their English study situation. Facing the new revolution of college ameliorate examination and the calling of the new era, the English educators and teachers need to know how to use the new teaching tools to enhance reading teaching situation, to help students overcome their reading difficulties, and to improve students’ reading marks. Therefore, this paper aims to solve the following problems through the multimedia application research: Firstly, what are the frequencies, the types and the aims of multimedia applying in senior high school reading teaching? Secondly, how are the reading attitudes and reading abilities of senior high school students in English reading learning? Thirdly, through the control experiment, the writer wants to observe if multimedia could solve the existing problems of students’ reading abilities and attitudes, and improve their reading grades.In order to solve problems above, this study firstly uses literature research. According to the research theme, I used literature research to learn the related literatures and the related research situations. All these studies can provide the research fundamental and experience. Secondly, I adopted questionnaire survey and classroom observation is to find out the existing problems in current application of multimedia in senior high school. Then, I carried out one-semester control experiment to observe if multimedia assisted reading teaching can influence students’ reading attitudes and reading abilities. In the end, I used interview investigation to know the true feelings of the students who are from multimedia assisted class.Through one semester’s research, I draw the final conclusion: the application of multimedia to English reading teaching in senior high school can improve students’ reading attitudes and certain reading skills. Meanwhile, I also found some problems in current reading class and the application of multimedia, such as the extensive use of “single-media”; the improper application of teaching media by English teacher; teachers’ over attention to the study of language knowledge in reading class; students reading skills demands are not satisfied in English reading learning process. All the problems above need to be paid more attention to in the future reading teaching. At last, based on my findings, I presented some suggestions to the application of multimedia to English reading teaching in senior high school.
